Shivajayanti Celebration at Sarhad Law School

On 19th February 2025, Sarhad Law School celebrated Shivajayanti the birth anniversary of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with immense pride, reverence, and enthusiasm. The event was not merely a cultural gathering; it was a heartfelt tribute to one of India’s greatest warriors and visionaries, a leader whose legacy continues to inspire generations across Maharashtra and the nation.
Shivjayanti is more than a historical celebration—it is a day of reflection, awakening, and cultural pride for every Maharashtrian. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is not only remembered as a valiant warrior who challenged foreign rule and protected Swarajya, but also as a just administrator, a promoter of inclusive governance, and a beacon of ethics and honor. His life was a perfect blend of bravery, compassion, and visionary leadership. For the people of Maharashtra, Shivaji Maharaj is not merely a king—he is a symbol of identity, resilience, and dharma (righteousness).
The program at Sarhad Law School began at 12:00 p.m. and the air was filled with an atmosphere of reverence and cultural pride. The students and faculty gathered together in traditional attire, reflecting the deep-rooted admiration for Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s enduring spirit.
A Divine Beginning: Shivaji Maharajancha Palna (शिवाजी महाराजांचा पाळणा)
One of the most emotional and spiritual moments of the celebration was the performance of ‘शिवाजी महाराजांचा पाळणा’, presented by Asst. Prof. Sampada Kulkarni. This traditional Marathi song describes the birth of Shivaji Maharaj and the divine dreams his mother, Jijabai, envisioned for him. Her voice carried a depth of emotion that moved many in the audience. The performance beautifully captured the essence of Jijamata’s unwavering faith and vision for her son, planting the seeds of leadership, bravery, and moral strength in young Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj from his infancy. The rendition reminded everyone of the powerful role that a mother’s upbringing plays in shaping great leaders.
Remembering Valor: The Powada Performance
Following the soulful lullaby, the celebration transitioned into a vibrant and energetic performance of a traditional Powada, a form of Marathi folk poetry known for its powerful narration of heroic deeds. The Powada was performed by Asst. Prof. Swati Dimber and second-year student Ajit Pawar, whose voices echoed with pride. Their spirited presentation narrated the legendary battles and strategic brilliance of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The tempo, expressions, and energy of the Powada gripped the audience, transporting them back in time to the fierce battlefields where Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj stood tall against mighty empires, armed with courage and an unshakable sense of justice.
Words of Wisdom: An Inspiring Address by Principal Madam
The highlight of the program was the deeply moving and insightful speech delivered by the Principal of Sarhad Law School, Hon’ble S. R. Khaladkar Madam, shared a powerful message. She emphasized how the values of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj stood for courage, justice, respect for women, and commitment to duty are incredibly relevant in today’s world.
